THE NEXT CURVE INITIATIVE
THE NEXT GENERATION OF PHILANTHROPISTS
To meet the growing needs of the Puget Sound area, the Renton Community Foundation aims to bring more resources to the table by expanding its donor base. To accomplish this, we host educational events, publicize our grants and activities, and meet with individuals in the community.
In 2010, the Foundation agreed to host a new group of young professionals who wished to become more involved in the community. We helped this group to develop a new “giving circle” concept called the Next Curve.
The Next Curve Initiative is designed for young professionals who are charitably-minded, but perhaps don’t yet know how to get involved. For an annual donation of just $120, Next Curve members hold monthly meetings to facilitate networking, education about local nonprofits, and participation in community volunteer opportunities. Speakers at Next Curve meetings have included distinguished guests from the Puget Sound region, including the Renton City mayor, regional business owners, community leaders, and nonprofits.
In addition to the membership fee, Next Curve typically holds one or two fundraisers each year. At the end of the year, Next Curve members vote on how to distribute donations to the community. The resulting grants are awarded at the Renton Community Foundation’s annual CELEBRATE! The Love of Community event at the beginning of the following year.
The RCF board of directors is delighted to support Next Curve as an innovative avenue for involving young donors and cultivating the next generation of community leaders.
