APPLYING FOR A GRANT

The majority of grant funds within the Renton Community Foundation are either donor-advised or agency-advised, meaning we take our lead from others when disbursing money. There are a couple of exceptions explained below.

FIRST FINANCIAL NORTHWEST FOUNDATION FUND

This fund was created by the board of First Financial Northwest Foundation who serve as its donor advisors. Initially, RCF staff helped the FFNW Foundation create guidelines and an application form for two series of grants from this regional fund, serving King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties. Currently however, the board has suspended grants from this fund while they build assets in their endowment (First Savings Bank of Renton Fund).

CIRCLE OF GIVING

Each year, the Foundation raises unrestricted money through a program called “Circle of Giving.” Donors are asked to make gifts of $1,000 or more and then are given the privilege of helping to decide how grants will be disbursed. In twelve years, almost $300,000 has been given back to the community through this program. RCF no loner accepts applications for these grants. Instead, donors are asked to recommend an organization with which they are familiar. Grants typically range between $500 and $4,000 and most often can be used for operations.
